You know you have the soul of an artist, don't you? I just put a link to your site on my blog. The poppies are spectacular!

P.S. You already have a comment in my comments section (she couldn't leave it here).

Again, gorgeous. It's an incredible thing to see the world through your eyes -- which is the gift of a true artist.

Beautiful photos. Beauty is everywhere, if you have eyes to see it.

Thanks everybody. The camera is a very tiny little Pentax Optio S4i. It's claim to fame is that it's "the camera that fits in an Altoids tin". They are making the S5i now which has 5 megapixels instead of 4. I use a Fuji S3 camera for most of my professional work. I think that Fuji amateur cameras also have great image quality... but the Pentax is so small and light and has such a complete feature set that I got it to carry in my pocket. The macro feature is so good that I tend to shoot macro all the time now. When I shoot a bug or a flower, I see things when I get back to the computer that I couldn't see with the naked eye. I love that surprise factor.

Kenju sent me and I am amazed. I have the 5.0 megapixel Optio and I'm not very good with it. Can you please, please tell me more about this macro feature?

Rick Lee said...

Melissa, send me an email and I'll walk you through the process of using the macro feature.

Oregano, at this point any of the 6 megapixel (and up) DSLR cameras will give better quality than a 35mm camera. More like medium format really. I have the 30x40 inch prints to prove it! The photos you see here look good mainly because they are reduced to 400 pixels wide. 400x300 is a tiny image by professional standards. Some of these images would look a noisy and unsharp if I attempted to get large prints made from them.
