Your photos make me want to call a travel agent and book a trip to Roane County.

The lone tree is achingly beautiful. It fills me with sorrow.

I thought these were paintings!

I saw in your posts from last year that your Father was from Roane County. What area? Both of my parents are from there. My Father from right outside of Spencer and my Mother from Newton.

My dad grew up on Laurel Fork near the Looneyville post office. You can see the house here.

WV certainly has its fair share of oddy-named towns: Looneyville, Big Ugly, Scrabble, War, Left Hand and even Odd.

Am I forgetting any?

re: the list of oddly named West Virginia towns? I have two more:

Man, and Paw Paw.

Ha. Michigan has a Paw Paw too. Right near Kalamazoo.

I am a descendent of the Looney's that Looneyville is named for and I have an Aunt who lives on Canoe Run. You make a turn at the Left Hand Post office. If you know anything about the area near the Left Hamnd post office, many years ago there was a Knight Store there. Also relatives of mine.
