Bye Michigan

Also seen on the WV Turnpike... this truck was piled high with somebody's possessions. The sign on the tailgate says: "Bye Michigan... last one out, please turn out the lights!" Not exactly original, but good for a chuckle anyway.

Pretty sad when you emigrate to West Virginia for a job.
Oh wait, I'm from Cleveland originally ...

I grew up a Yooper. I left in '84(Reaganomics took too long to reach my backwoods home, Carter's damage was too deep for me to wait) and I moved to Louisiana. . . escaped from there in '04 to move to the increasing Michigan Refugee camp of Texas.
Ted Nugent fled here. Has a nice little bit of land near the Bush Ranch. A chemist I work with is from the U.P. as well, his wife from the town, Escanaba of Jeff Daniels movie fame, which is next to my home town. Sadly Michigan is controlled by the bottom quarter of the state. Soaking the Big 3 is so deeply ingrained they never notice how much it kills any other manufacturing or business it kills off or drives away. Notice in the Jeff Daniels comercials about Michigan, almost every time they talk of a company the moved to "Michigan's Friendly Environs" the companies came from the People's Republic of California. One of the few places more hostile to running a business than Michigan.
There is always a joke about the U.P. becoming the 51st state...if Marquette county (and it's NMU pocket of liberalism) was cleaned of leftists, I'd love to move back home.

Having just moved to West Michigan from Boston, I can relate. There are very few jobs here, and the ones that are, are leaving. I honestly don't know why any manufacturer would stay in MI. Fortunately I'm in sales, and can always find work.
