Light opportunity
So last week I'm sitting on a bench at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore enjoying the evening breeze... when the light started to get really nice on the National Aquarium...
I'm thinking to myself... dang... that's really nice.. but there's a post in my way. In order to get that shot I'm going to have to get my butt up off of this bench. Sigh. It's so much trouble doing this blog.

Inner Harbor Flowers

View from Sideling Hill
I wonder how many times this little church has been photographed?
You can see it with a looong telephoto lens from the Sideling Hill Exhibit Center in Maryland. If you've ever travelled I-68, you know where this is. You can't miss it. I've stopped there before on the way to and from the Eastern Panhandle of WV. I stopped again on Saturday returning from Baltimore only because the weather was extraordinary. Here's a view of the road cut:
The "Exhibit Center" explains the geology.

Challenge Walk
Sometimes I challenge myself to take a good photo. Some challenges are more difficult than others. Most days, my work photography is a real challenge. When I'm just shooting for myself, I could wait till inspiration strikes... but that's not really very often. Some photos hit you over the head like a ballbat... sometimes you have to go looking. It was a beautiful day here today and at 8pm I realized I hadn't taken a photo all day. I was at my studio which is in a section of town not recognized for its picturesque beauty. I went for a walk around the block and challenged myself to find something... anything. When I got back and looked at the photos I was surprised to find these... which aren't bad at all.

Yet another bug...
... I'm constantly amazed at the macro power of the Pentax Optio S4i. This fly was small... much, much smaller than a common housefly. The camera has its faults, but the close-up capability is astonishing for a camera in this class. Can you see the hairs on the leg?

The Queen of Capitol Street
Restoration work is being done on the old Scott Bros. Building...
... currently occupied by the Bailey & Glasser law firm. This incredible old Queen Anne Victorian commercial building is in the heart of the Charleston (WV) historic "Village District". I have often called this building the "Queen of Capitol Street" and thankfully it has owners who are taking good care of it. I remember when a bakery was located in the building. It was a fine bakery, but the archictecture was obliterated by a crappy 50's era false front. It's gratifying to see the old buildings being brought back to glory.

Old Climber
I don't need Judy to tell me this is a Clematis.
This was planted by the previous owner of my home. I never do anything to it... it just comes back year after year. I hardly ever see it because of where it is. I just happened to notice that it was there so I took a few shots.
