I don't normally do "news" on this site. But I just happened to be in downtown Charleston when this fire broke out next door to "Delish", one of my favorite eating establishments.
That's our beloved mayor, Danny Jones being interviewed by the press.

Nice shots. I thought about going into the parking garage as well, but figured that would be too close.
You are the first to report this story. We are going to have to start calling you Scoop Lee.
Great pictures. I'm glad it wasn't the Charleston News Papers Building, as I first heard.
I would have had it on the web within 30 minutes, but Blogger was acting up and wouldn't let me post photos for a while. I certainly got them up before the newspaper sites.
Where is that building, Rick?
McFarland St between Virginia and Quarrier
Great shots Rick. I didn't venture down the street far since Daniel (my 5 year old) was with me and the smoke was pretty strong. I lik the arial shots you got. I got some good shots from the back of the building -- especially when the wind shifted and the smoke started going east. The firefighters on the ladder in the back were amazing -- when the wind shifted you couldn't even see them in the midst of all the smoke. It had to be hot.
I had the same problem with Blogger on posting photos -- but we both beat the local news.
Wow... that's a dramatic shot of yours with all the flames shooting out of the back of the buildings. I never even saw any flames.
Until the wind changes it was all smoke. When the wind shifted the flames shot up. At one point the flames were curling around the back wall. The fence limited me from getting a good shot. It reminded me of Backdraft.
Not even a block. This is a damn tragedy.
Oh, and is that the back of Ralston's head in the last picture?
BTW... the damaged building collapsed without warning the other day. If anybody had been walking on the sidewalk in front of it they probably would have been killed or seriously injured. Fortunately, that didn't happen.
