The Duke of Fife Street

This was just a quick grab shot...

...while walking down Fife Street, but it says a lot if you know the man and the place. If you don't know either, just enjoy a fun shot of a friendly face.

Does Fife Street still have a shoe repair shop? I remember sitting in a booth there when I was small, waiting for my shoes to be repaired. I loved the smells of the place. Was Scott's Drug Store on the corner of Fife too? I have a photo of myself and 3 classmates standing in front of the marble soda counter, modeling clothes for the Diamond. Fun memories.

Yes.. the Fife Street Shoe Repair is still there. The old Scott Bros Building has been beautifully restored and there is now a law office in there. You can see a painting of it on my pastel page. Also see the painting of the Loewenstein Building which is across Fife Street from the Scott Brothers Building.

I'll try to post some more photos of Fife Street in the near future. I can't shoot anything tomorrow because I'll be on location out of state all day. Fife Street, which used to be a rather shabby little alley is now a pretty nice looking pedestrian walkway between Capitol St. and Summers St. It was fixed up when Charleston installed the big Streetscape project in late 80s (?).
