Dogwood or Doug Wood? You decide.

Some of you thought I didn't know a Dogwood from a Doug Wood.
This is a dogwood flower (also from my front yard)...

This is my cousin Doug Wood...

I clearly do know the difference.

Of course, I can also see the difference: Doug has way more than 4 petals and he isn't quite as pink.

I thought about making some sort of joke about them both being delicate flowers... Doug is rather famous in certain circles for being anything but. He works for the Dept of Environmental Protection and in his spare time he's built more miles of hiking trails than most people have hiked.

Rick, I saw your Redbud comment on Ann Althouse's blog. Peace and Victory from the Wild 100, 11 hours of racing, top of Gauley Mountain 2001.

LM... whoa... Wild100.. you are one bad dude. I love mountain biking, but I didn't get any competitive genes. I've never had any desire to get into racing.

Mountain biking in WV is some of the best. If you ever get the chance, I strongly recommend checking out Slatyfork. One need not race to enjoy the sport - it just gives us feeling we're doing something... legitimate as opposed to just telling our spouses we are going out in the woods to ride our bikes around for three days when, in fact, thats all we're really doing.

Oh, I almost forgot... growing up, I knew a guy named Bob White, and this is true... everyone called him Quail.
