The Whipple Store

I went to Glen Jean, WV to shoot a job today. On the way home, I passed through Whipple and I always take note of the old octagonal building at the crossroads. The odd structure was built as a coal company store in the old days. It hasn't been a company store in a long time but many businesses have been located in the building as time went by. I see now that it's vacant and in terrible shape. It's going to be sad to see that piece of history go.

That's a fascinating building, what a design. I love that archway.

I've passed that building, too. Although I can't remember exactly where we were going at the time. A friend of ours has a mother who lives near Fayetteville, and we've stayed there a couple of times. Maybe it was on the way there? It is a really neat building. I think there was a restaurant in it when we last saw it.

If you get off of the Turnpike (I77) at the Mossy exit, you go across that little road to Oak Hill and Whipple is just before you get to Oak Hill.
