A couple of Ys in the forest
I look at this tree every morning when I get in my car. I've taken I don't know how many photos of this scene but this is the first one that I've cared to share.

November Morning Sky
There was a really beautiful sky this morning so I shot a few quick shots before getting in the car this morning...
... and then while driving across the South Side Bridge I did a few complete Hail Mary shots. I was able to crop out one pretty good shot of the river with a barge from one of them, as you can see.
Technically, a Hail Mary is where you hold the camera over your head and shoot blind. This is typically done in a crowd. You'll see news photographers doing this all the time. Often, the best shots will come from these. The higher angle is often a real benefit to the shot. In this case, I'll call these Hail Marys but I wasn't holding the camera up high, I was just shooting without looking because I knew there was a good photo there, but I had to concentrate on driving the car.

Refinement
Here's some stuff I shot while hanging out waiting in Macy's. I thought I'd post two versions of these shots to show how I might refine a shot after I decided to shoot it. Looking at the handbag buckle, I've always thought that good composition was just as much about what to leave out as what to include. Looking at the necklaces, I shot it one way, then I decided to try a different angle and also add a little color by holding up a Macy's shopping bag with a big red star on it.
Easton Shopping Trip
I'm in Columbus doing a little shopping. I didn't shoot too many pictures today. The dull gray sky wasn't exactly inspiring. Here are some door handles from Anthropologie, and some doodads from Sur la Table. After I shot that last picture, I realized it was familiar.

Fun at Thanksgiving
West Side Sky
This is something I shot last week. I was in the parking lot of a hospital here in Charleston and the sun was setting to the west. The clouds were low and moving fast. See more skys here.

Grab Shot
Here's an interesting photo. I took it while working as a still photographer on a film shoot a couple of weeks ago. No, she's not an actress or a model. She was working as a Production Assistant. I liked the way her hair was backlit so I raised my camera to get a quick shot and she spotted me. I think the series is quite funny and tells the story better than I could in words.

Ball-Chain Spool
John Amos Morning Mist
This is the John Amos Plant. It's a large coal-fired electric power plant that I pass by when I go to Huntington. I often see the early morning sun reflecting on those man-made clouds. I've often thought I'd stop sometime and shoot this scene, but it's a high-traffic area on the freeway and it would be dangerous to stop on the side of the road here. I shot it this morning by rolling down the window and holding my pocket camera up and just firing off a few frames as I drove by.
