AT&T Building

I'm walking along 55th Street and all of a sudden I see this building looming overhead. I remember vividly when this was built. Designed by Philip Johnson and built in the mid-80s, the AT&T Building was supposed to herald the return of ornament to modern architecture. I remember how much I laughed when some wag referred to it as a typical skyscraper with a Chippendale highboy plopped on top.

I like it. And the wag was right.
