Obama in West Virginia

My friend Brooke Brown got some up-close-and-personal shots of Obama's visit to Charleston. Included is a photo showing that Annie Leibovitz shoots with her left eye like I do. It's like being left-handed... cameras are designed for righties. Your nose is always smashing into things and pushing buttons that you didn't want pushed.

It was a strange moment, Rick. I, along with everyone else, was cheering on Obama... and then all of a sudden, there's Annie Leibovitz! It was a surreal moment.

Interesting note about the left-eye phenomenon. Annie's in good company.

My dad (who is left-handed along with my mother, husband and my son) always used to say...

"Everyone is born left-handed but only the greatest overcome it!"

Whatever!

I've never really thought about it, but I shoot through my left eye as well.

And I'm left handed. Someone I was talking to just yesterday about it said almost the same quote as Anna, but opposite, that everyone is born right-handed and only the greatest overcome it.

Hey, he was at MY school!! I wish I had been there to see him. I met John Kennedy there in 1960.

I wish I could teach myself to use both eyes equally well. After awhile, if I'm taking a lot of shots, my eye gets tired and I'd like to be able to shift to the other one.

I am a lefty too, never tought about it in terms of the camera, but when ever I shoot a rifle there is some adjusting that one must do.

I am ambidextrous, so I have wondered if "handedness" has anything to do with it.

I think that in my case it's not so much a right-brain/left-brain thing, but the fact that my left eye is stronger for distance vision. My right eye is better for close vision. Viewfinders and scopes are set up for far vision (new ones are adjustable). But at this point in my life, I've been using the left eye for so long that it just seems totally weird to look through the right eye. I'm sure I could change if I had to... with time and practice.

Cool! I do, too.

Man, I would have loved to have just been in the same room with her!
