Ah, mystery photo. You have us all stumped. When you tell us will we go "ah -ha"? My first guess was something on a drafting table, but I think what I thought was wood is metal. I vote industrial something :)
For some reason, I'm thinking the wheel is about 8 or 10 inches across. That it's not little. Which leads me to a complete and random stab in the dark. Is it the edge of a booth in a restaurant? Where 17 is the number of the booth on the left? And, the wheel is just decorative?
Okay, if Carletta is warm I'd say it's a tension wheel on a drafting table. You loosen it to adjust the angle of the table then tighten it again when you get it where you want it.
It's a little hard to explain, so here's a photo of the thing in context. The copper-orange color and the purity of the form of the thing just caught my eye.

Dont know what it is...but it is interesting.
What do you think it is?
Rick: Is it a door pull.
I have been looking at it for ten minutes....still nothing.
It's Wednesday...what can I say?
I will keep looking at it today.
Is it a wheel of some sort on a model?
