Mushroom Camo


Seen on a golf course in Fayetteville, WV... a few feet away from yesterday's mushroom.

It's a rarely-photographed specimen of chameleon mushroom. The reason they're rarely-photographed is that in most instances they appear as piles of doggy doodoo. ;-)

On behalf of your more decorous viewers, Rick, I hope you won't take that as a challenge for this evening's post!

As for surprising shapes in mushrooms, nothing beats the aptly named stinkhorn (genus: Phallus), which has astonished and embarrassed many a young naturalist.
