We have one of these places in Charleston too. They are marvelous relics of days gone by. Planters used to franchise these places but they got out of the retail business long ago. Many of the stores survive though.
On the topic of Planters, there's a rather high-level exec at WV American Water who is an absolute Mr. Peanut FREAK!!! I forget his name but he is a fanatical collector of Mr. Peanut everything. I know because I had to hear about it in mind-numbing detail for two subsequent years at the Mountaineer Business & Trade Show! :-)

This place is gone now -- closed around 2009. A massage parlor there now. Very sad.
