bclbaku is correct... it's the inner part of a female sago palm. It's a seed pod I guess. These palms don't get real tall. I leaned over one in Florida and looked in the top just to see if there was anything worth photographing in there and the sight of this weird yellow ball kinda freaked me out.

I would guess some type of coral or anemone (sp?) that was left over from your aquarium trip.
