I'm with paul. I think it's a pencil sharpener.
I used one of these mechanical pencils during high school -- mostly to be different. The lead was much more durable than the old #2 Ticonderoga. At least that's how I remember it. The sharpeners created a much finer point than the Boston sharpeners.
Yep... it's one of those fancy old pencil sharpeners. I wondered if anybody would remember them.
It's a lead pointer, as opposed to a pencil sharpener.
