... where it's not about the camera.
Looks like it might be the pressure valve release on an old radiator.
Hmm - something in a basement is about all I've gathered so far...
Maybe a tea kettle or a butter churner?
A pencil sharpener. Probably most blog readers don't remember pencils.
I'm with paul. I think it's a pencil sharpener.
It's not just any pencil sharpener. It was used for sharpening drafting pencils. The pencil was a mechanical pencil with a big thick lead that was positioned by pressing a button the top. You let out the lead a fair ways and then stick it into the sharpener and then rotated the top of the sharpener. Inside was a conical piece of sand paper that put a very fine point on the lead.
I used one of these mechanical pencils during high school -- mostly to be different. The lead was much more durable than the old #2 Ticonderoga. At least that's how I remember it. The sharpeners created a much finer point than the Boston sharpeners.
Yep... it's one of those fancy old pencil sharpeners. I wondered if anybody would remember them.
It's a lead pointer, as opposed to a pencil sharpener.
yup: a lead pointer.
