... that I saw in Huntington on Wednesday.
A cowboy and his dog...
... a suspension bridge in the woods...
... a raptor flying high...
I looked this up and I think it's a "Broadwinged Hawk" which I don't recall seeing before. Can someone confirm this?

Well, you dont see a cowboy and his daug everyday! There really is something to being in the right place at the right time, huh?
*dog*...what was I typing!?!?!?
I think you are right, Rick - the white stripe on the tail is a good clue.
Yep, looks like a broadwing to me. Short, stumpy, and barred. Nice shot.
If any of you are interested in photographing raptors you should try to get up to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Pennsylvania during the fall migration [October/ November]. On good days broadwings come through by the hundreds.
Rick: Wonderful captures today, what a nice variety.
Cowboy, or mounted hobo? Too bad you couldn't have talked to the guy to find out his story.
My brother-in-law in an ornithologist (by profession) in the Berkshires. He says "Good for them. Yes, it is a broadwing."
Thanks Kenn! Great to hear from you.
