Spectral Display

I saw this patch of light on a granite (?) floor in a law office. The light was coming through a pair of glass doors and the edge of the one of the doors created this prism effect. The patch of light was about two inches long.

It's wonderful to see a rainbow, no matter where you find it.

Law office?

Uh, oh.

Roy G. Biv, Attorney at Law. He won't take NO for an answer!

The photo gives the illusion of surface texture of the granite, when I'm sure it had none - highly polished.

Actually this particular floor was textured.

So was the lawyer depo-ing a leprechaun?

No doubt he was issuing a collection notice for his pot o' gold.

So it was a "trompe-trompe l'oeil" ... it tricked my eye into thinking my eye was being tricked.

Cool.

It's granite. If you point a torch at even the most highly polished granite it will spall exactly like that. It's commmon in landscaping to do that for exterior surfaces so they won't be slippery.

I love the little rainbows that pop up in all sorts of unexpected places.
