Welcome to the West Virginia Turnpike

Don't go into the light Carol Anne!

Whereabouts in West Virginia is this turnpike?

Hi Heather... the WV Turpike is the toll-road portion of Interstate 77 from Charleston to Princeton. It's southern WV. Southern WV is known for the steep mountains and rugged scenery. Not the rolling gentle scenery such as where Sharon lives.

BTW... I once drove down the WV Turnpike at dawn with a crew from BBC Wales. These guys were beside themselves talking about the light playing amongst the hills, comparing it to scenery they'd recently seen in the gorges of China. I think sometimes in this state we tend to take stuff for granted.

That's true. The topography in the southern part of the state is much more dramatic.

I think we tend to take our beautiful landscapes for granted, as well. When people come to visit they always comment on the gorgeous scenery. We tend to sort of take it as read.

I don't know. All of you Charleston Area Bloggers seem very proud of your beautiful state. I've always liked how tight knit you all are and how much you seem to love your state.

People from Texas are alot like that, too.

Great photos.

Heather, former WV'ians (like me) are proud of the state too. Everytime I go back home, I notice more and more of how beautiful it is!

I have been gone from WV for just over a year now, and I am constantly talking about how gorgeous the state is. Living in Baltimore now, the thing I miss most about home is how natural everthing is--trees that are where THEY decided to grow, not where someone decided landscaping would look nice, that sort of thing. I used to travel this part of WV often with my old job, and your pictures really make me miss those drives Rick.
