Touch the Mothman's muscular glutes.
All the cool kids are doing it. It's good luck! Honest. :-)

Fabulous as that is...uh...what is it?
And where can I get one?
I'd make fun of it, too, except that here in Hudson County, NJ, officials were seriously considering installing a 9/11 memorial statue that was widely compared to a giant vagina.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
You've been Instalanched, Rick! Congrats!
Here's the plaque with the statue. It has some information on it. The movie with Richard Gere was pretty good.
Thanks Pete... the irony is that Sitemeter is down this morning so my counter says that I've had zero visitors this morning. Sheesh
Ugh, I wish this state would let the Mothman rest already. That, the Braxton County Monster, John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry, and the Marshall football team crash...claims to fame that I'm all too sick of hearing about.
Dale... I'm surprised to hear YOU say that. Hmmm. Personally, I'm sick of Roswell getting all the attention. Flatwoods and Point Pleasant are just as good! Not that I put any actual stock in these legends, but I enjoy them in a fun, ironic sense. I've been saying for years that Flatwoods needs a "Braxton County Monster" museum to compete with Roswell. They are having a festival these days which is a good start. Bring on the t-shirt buying tourists! You need to create a Mothman mascot costume for Pt Pleasant.
Rick,
Well, you know who to talk to about getting a Braxton County Monster Museum. Although by the time it arrives, the name may have changed slightly.
"The Robert C. Byrd Braxton County Monster Museum" does have a nice ring, though.
Well yeah... it goes without saying that it'd have Federal funding! Such as...
LOL!!! Rick, rest assured, I'm sick of hearing about Roswell, too. I mean, that occurred in 1947 and there was never any evidence to suggest it was anything other than some sort of experimental airship with crash test dummies aboard. I think they've beaten it as far into the ground as it can go. :-) On a Mothman side note, Mark McNabb called me up when that Douglas TenNaple guy made his Mothman film back in the mid-90s. They needed someone to puppeteer the creature they had created. "What does it pay, Mark?" "Uh, I think they're asking for a volunteer with experience." Needless to say, I declined.
I didn't mean to seem insensitive to the loss of life...I merely meant that I'm a bit weary of hearing so much about the crash in the media. Once the movie comes and goes I'm sure it will dimish significantly. Didn't mean to offend anyone.
Oh, and I'll get righ to work on that Mothman costume! I know they already have Mothman plush toys!
I'm friends with man who created the statue. His daughter is pretty upset that everyone's making money off the likeness of her dads creation but him.
Sky... the statue and/or plaque should have a copyright symbol on it... which I don't think it does. I'm not sure if that makes any difference or not... but technically, a sculptor should own the copyright of the image of the sculpture and would have recourse against anyone reproducing it for profit. It would mean suing people which might or might not be worth the trouble and expense. But all in all... it's pretty cool that the Mr Roach has created something that is really catching on. One would hope that this would lead to more commissions for the artist.
I was just googling the mothman movie and it turns out that the name is spelled "Douglas Tennapel"
