1052 Bridge Road...

... was the address of my studio for many years. Last week I drove by there and saw that the building was undergoing some work... possibly demolition. I hoped that it was being demolished and not remodeled. The building needed knocking down if any building did. It was a mess.

This was the scene today.

Sigh. No one will miss it. Many years ago it was a neighborhood grocery store and some of my older friends told me of fond memories of going in there to buy candy when they were little. A parade of failed businesses went through the building in the 70s and 80s. I was in there from 1987 till about 4 years ago. I guess my photo studio was in the building longer than anything since the grocery store. It appeared to have been built by an amateur builder. It was solid, but crooked. It had big heavy beams but nothing was plumb. The roof didn't have enough slope so it leaked constantly. Boy, I sure don't miss that.

I didn't know there had ever been a grocery up there except for the Ellis IGA. That sure was an ugly building, Rick.....LOL

When I moved in the place had just been remodeled with that blue-grey vertical siding on it and all new walls and flooring inside. It looked pretty good at that time. It was weird to see it last week with the siding stripped off.

We all move on to bigger and better things, don't we Rick? I started out in the very tiny studio here in the Henderson Building in Hurricane, outgrew it in six months then moved into the studio next door, which was three times larger. Now this week I have taken back my old tiny studio in order to EXPAND my current studio because the mascot business is booming and I've been desperately running out of space. "We're a small operation but we're expandin', EXPANDIN'! Just like you frogs expand. Don't you frogs expand?"

Okay, so Publisher Jack has me intrigued...what happened when you moved out of the old studio?

Maisyday... to make a long story short.. I am something of a pack rat. I had a lot of storage space in that building. When it came time to move, I moved everything I really needed down to the new place and started working. But the old place didn't look like I had moved out. It just looked the same. I ended up throwing away 3000lbs of stuff. It was a 26 foot U-Haul truck full of stuff that went to the dump. Don't ask me what it was... I can't really answer that question. Just a lot of everything.

"Ex-Grocery store becomes take-out"

Ha! I need a professional headline writer on the staff here.

Rick, you have a way of making fellow pack rats feel much better about themselves. When I moved to B-more I threw out/gave away a lot of stuff, but I can't imagine it came anywhere close to 3000 lbs!
