Lone Trees

Trees in a forest are somehow less beautiful than trees standing alone. As I said yesterday, I was driving through Roane County, West Virginia and these trees stood out to me. My father grew up in this county, and I love the scenery. The topography is much less harsh than southern WV.

LOVE that top one. The sun beams really sets it off.

Yeah, I'm crazy about that shot too. Both of these were shot by just slowing down and shooting out the window. I was actually surprised so see the light in that shot when I reviewed the pictures on the computer.

Gorgeous. Would love to see that same picture in the autumn when the leaves have reached their peak of colors.

If I can remember, I'll take that drive on Rt 33 from Ripley to Spencer in the fall.

I'd been away for awhile.

Coming back puts me in mind of how much I love your work.

When I was young, I always used to draw trees. Leafless, because I liked the structure, or for some psych reason I'd rather not know.

Some say we evolved in savanna country--plains broken by trees, and so they're often our favorite landscape.

I natter on. Great pictures.
