The Other Charleston, More Doors & Windows

People seemed to like the door photos a lot... so, since I didn't have anything new to post, I scrounged up a few more doors and windows from my Charleston (SC) trip.

There is a tradition in the south that many may not have heard.

When someone buys a home, they paint the front door red. When they pay off the mortgage, they have a party - burn the mortgage papers and paint the front door black.

Out of the red and into the black.

I'd never heard that before, so I Googled it and I found quite a few references saying that a red door means the mortgage is paid off!

Nice pictures -- you should make a poster or a calendar or something like that. "The Doors of Charleston by Rick Lee"! Kinda has a nice ring to it.

Hey! You were on my turf! Fun to see the streets I walk each day through your camera.

Joan.. the city takes my breath away. I felt like I just couldn't shoot fast enough.

I'm thinking you will need to come back soon. :)

We're thinking perhaps again next Winter. The off-season hotel prices are fantastic.

I love these kinds of architectural shots. There is something about pictures of old buildings that transports one through time.

I took some door pics in Vienna a couple of years ago and more recently some in Madison, Indiana. Just something compelling about old doors.
