Produce Blogging #53

Because Thursday night is grocery night!

Look at that... that's the shadow of a branch and a leaf. Huh.

Looks like a fist. A pepper fist.

It's a bug-eat-bug world

I was out in rural West Virginia today when I saw this weird little scene. What I thought was a dragonfly was eating a large bumblebee. Or sucking it dry or something. I checked with my entomological consultant, Peggy Powell who told me that this is a "Robber Fly" and probably the variety known as the "Hanging Thief".

Capitol & The South Side Bridge

I spent the whole day indoors re-organizing my filing cabinet. I didn't shoot anything today so I raided my old stuff for a photo to post. I shot it the same evening that I shot the orange moon. It's not an especially good photo but it's interesting. The bridge and the capitol building are 1.5 miles apart. The very long telephoto lens makes them appear closer.

Cute Nanner

Look what I found in the produce aisle. Three bites. It comes with instructions to peel from the bottom... which works.

Produce Blogging #50

Because Thursday night is grocery night!
Yippee... Fifty. Sorry for not posting this last night. I went to bed early.

I think this last one looks like a cartoon cat face. Can you see it?

Smith Road Morning

I've been driving by scenes like this in the morning every work day since 1988. Only since I started photo-blogging have I actually begun stopping to take these pictures. Before, I would think about stopping but I wouldn't do it because I was a professional and nobody was paying me to do it and I couldn't imagine what I'd ever do with the photos. Now, I stop. I shoot. I need those photos. I am amassing quite a library of these shots. Photo-blogging has made me a better photographer.

After the rain, at dusk

I went for a walk at dusk... after a brief rain. Little drops of water everywhere.

I saw this in the parking garage on Thursday and I thought for sure I'd get a few good blog photos from it, but to be honest, it just wasn't that great. First of all, the car was dirty... and second, the body was pretty boring. The interior was interesting, but I didn't have access to that.

In the news today, Paris Hilton was bit by a kinkajou. Don't know what a kinkajou is? Here's one I photographed for Disney Adventures Magazine last year.

The 2006 Hunters Ridge Bambi Convention

I came home today to find a Bambi convention taking place in my yard. Five spotted fawn. Cuteness in bulk. I parked on the other side of the house and walked around with the camera. Normally they would just run into the woods when confronted but I wanted to see how they would react if I was between them and the woods. Well... it was pandemonium.

This guy spotted me first and got that classic "oh crap" look on his face.

Then they all realized that I was between them and the woods and they started doing that funny thing that deer do in these situations... jumping straight up in the air and generally running around like crazy.

So then these two stop just before going in the woods and just stare at me for the longest time. I can't decide if they are trying to look aggressive or what. C'mon guys, you look like friggin' Bambi, you couldn't scare a poodle. Maybe I'm wrong... maybe they are stopping to see if they are going to get a handout of some sort?

This one hangs out at wood's edge for some time staring a while longer. Then they are all gone.
