this looks like a cantelope with some wierd crust on it. The orange and the top part look like the cantelope, but the fungis on the crust, are what looks so wierd!
The parts with holes in them (that look like cantalope skin) could be some kind of hornet/wasp/bee enclosure. I'm stumped as to what the support for them is.
I have to agree with Dave when he said "some sort of melon". The truth is (as you might have guessed from my "what the heck is this?" remark) I don't know EXACTLY what it is... but here's a picture. It was in a bin at Wal-Mart with several other gourd/melon type of things and they had stickers on them that said "Autumn Color" leaving the impression that these things were for decoration, not eating. It looks like a diseased pumpkin, but I suppose it might be a legitimate vegetable of some sort. If anybody can find out what to call it, I'd like to know.
That looks like a pumpkin gourd with some kind of fungus on it. You have surely seen the small gourds that look like tiny pumpkins? That one has fungus or a genetic defect.

It looks like peanut shells on an apple. No doubt I'll be wrong again.
And what happened to Thursday night produce night? Please Rick, can we have some more? Thanks as always.

What the heck is this??
Wow, Rick, if even you don't know, we're really gonna have a hard time!
Ok, just kidding. It sure looks organic, some kind of melon maybe. And what with Thursday being grocery night, clearly there was opportunity. Hmmm.

A gourd. Yup. But that's only seeing up in full. I am terrible at this, but it is so fun!
Yikes, I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole, and no ten foot pole I know would touch it,either!
