Canard Wing

I saw this flying over Charles Town, WV last summer. Can anyone out there ID this plane? I'm just curious. I thought I knew what it was but it turned out I was wrong.

Flying!

While in Columbus, my old buddy Dave Gamble invited Adam (my nephew) and me to go flying. It was a blast!

This was taken just after doing a loop and a roll.

Tarmac Dawn

I was on a really early flight to Chicago this morning. It always seems that when I get off of a plane early in the morning I see something I want to photograph. Fortunately I always have my little Fuji in my pocket ready to go. I shot this in about 10 seconds before walking into O'Hare.

From the Air

I went for a plane ride to various parts of the state to shoot some aerials for a client. The weather was unbelievable. We were seeing power plants over one hundred miles away. Below is some typical West Virginia scenery, as seen from the air. Very typical.

Here's some atypical West Virginia scenery... in that it has, err, some actual development on it. This is the Stonewall Jackson Lake and Golf Resort.

Here's the plane we took. Just kidding. This is a privately owned Folland Gnat we saw at the airport. Looks like fun!

USAir Morning

I should have posted this one yesterday instead of the San Francisco shot... now I'm all out of order. This was shot on the tarmac in Charlotte.

Burning Jet Fuel

The last few days I've been following a film crew around a hospital. They are shooting tv commercials... I'm shooting stills to support the ad campaign. That's my buddy Wayne Sells hanging out of the helicopter putting an awful lot of faith in his harness. (Update: Yes, I've done that in the past. If you keep looking through the viewfinder it's not scary at all.)

Gotta love aircraft

I have a long established interest in aviation, so any time that I get to shoot pictures in or around aircraft is a big day for me. Here's a good day...

Helicopters are just so amazing. Having access to a helicopter is like having your own spaceship. You can fly anywhere you want to go at well over 100mph (as the crow flies, which is a lot faster than "as the car drives") and then you can land in the parking lot at the destination.

Of course, these medevac choppers are a good bit larger than your average JetRanger and their downwash will kick up anything that's not as heavy as an anvil and not bolted down.... so you have to be pretty careful where you land one.
