... walking past the New York Public Library on 5th Avenue this evening... it was all lit up with candles for some sort of reception. There was also special red lighting inside. Cool! We saw a bridal party getting out of limos. Perhaps I was jumping to conclusions, but how rich do you have to be to have your wedding reception in there? BTW... this was shot with my little Fuji pocket camera sitting on a sign in place of a tripod. Click on the photo for a better view.

Wow, that is so impressive and beautiful. Really something!
Oh, boy, do I like that idea!!
I bet it doesn't cost more to have your reception there than it would at a high class country club. You'd probably have a facility rental and the catering would be extra.
I'm actually one of the library staff and noticed when they where doing the nice decor earlier today. Kenju is correct it is not too expensive. I believe to rent the place for the night. 12 to 100 grand I've heard depending on the area of the library and amount of hours needed. What caught me was that whomever is getting married literally rented out the whole place and a for a longer amount hours than ussual. Which supposedly pushed the tab to about 1.5 mil or something around that number. I found this post while trying to figure out who was getting married as they tend to keep that to themselves at the office.
Sweet shot Rick. That's not something you get to see everyday... it just looks so surreal.
"pushed the tab to about 1.5 mil or something" Yikes. I noticed they had their own film crew videoing them as they got out of the limos. Nice looking bride!
This is one of my favorite buildings in Manhattan even without the fancy lights!!
That's a lovely picture! I hope I can get some good pictures of Berlin in the next couple of days - we're having a Festival of Lights and all the main buildings and monuments are lit up!!! Will definitely let you know when I do! :)
SB... shoot around dusk when there is a still a touch of light in the sky.
for Carrie Bradshaw it was the perfect spot too!
This is one of my favorite photos that you have taken Rick. Sometimes it takes getting out of our element to find the beauty.
However, I hope you get back to WV soon and find these breathtaking shots in our beloved mountaineer state!

My pictures are up of the Festival of Lights -- sadly I couldn't really take pictures with some light around because it's getting darker earlier :(

Sadly I only had my gorillapod with me (my nice tripod is in storage with the rest of our stuff in the US... and I cannot tell you how much I missed it!)... And I do have a question for you... are lenses for SLR interchangeable between digital and non-digital SLRS?
I was at the ceremony, held earlier at a huge religious institution. The bride's family is Russian. There was an all-woman orchestra playing classical music, and a bunch of the most annoying party planners (from Fete) who yakked on their earpiece radios throughout at shoved people around. The gowns were all gorgeous. It was totally over the top, so I can only imagine what the reception was like.
