I have remnants of a tree in my chain-link fence. I'll have to post a shot of it as well.But it's not nearly as pretty as this is!
I think it didn't grow that way, otherwise the tree would be malformed at the point of entry. Maybe they drilled it out?
I'm thinking it was drilled out, too, but that would take some work. Is it one continuous beam, or one going into each side of the tree?
It LOOKS like it's continuous but it might be that it just goes in a bit on each side.
Nature shall always overcome...
So...every few years, they have to take out the fence rail and drill new holes a bit further down as the tree grows taller...hmmm...I wonder if there are healed over holes higher on the tree already or if they haven't figured that one out yet.
