At the bottom it says:
Remember friends, as you pass by
As you are now, so once was I
As we are now, soon you shall be
Prepare for death and follow me
In the old days, people were creative with their headstones. Nowadays they put plastic doodads on them. Oh well.
Believe it or not, that thing has a photocell on the back, presumably so that it will light up at night.

The squirrel is so tacky (only in WV, huh?)
I like the squirrel. I'm guessing the deceased liked 'em too. I may change my mind about cremation. A Chief Wahoo who glows in the night -- now that would be purty
I thought about that... that perhaps the deceased liked squirrels. How else to explain it? I pictured an old man sitting on a park bench feeding the squirrels, but then I thought it was more likely that he like to go squirrel hunting.
Okay, let it be known that if anybody puts anything plastic on my grave -- especially a plastic, light-up anything -- I will come back and haunt them in ways that make Poltergeist look like Sesame Street.
light up squirrels are really creepy.
Now remember kids, kitsch kills!
I bet the ghost squirrel is just the tip of the iceberg...you just know there's all kinds of other stuff they must make for gravestones. Like maybe solar-powered smiley faces, a statuette of Old Yeller, or assorted U of K paraphernalia, maybe a John Wayne action figure...
Wonder if I can get a glow-in-the-dark Stratocaster(tm) on mine?
Better yet, product endorsements! Maybe Google or Pepsi or Fox would pay for the funeral if they could have post-mortem signage options in perpetuity.
Oh man... and you just know that there's plenty of companies such as Harley-Davidson getting free advertising on tombstones.
sure as hell beats a ROCK
but yeah, i prefer a stone squirrel
who knows, maybe the guy have squirrel pets or something...or ate them
I wonder why they do not make ornate tombstones anymore? Is it against cemetary policy, or is it just too much effore for compaines to have them made anymore? With this in mind, I might as well use the bronze nameplate on my desk as my marker.
i'm in sapulpa oklahoma, and in the old cemetary on the north side of town there's a ww1 soldier grave with that poem on it. it even has a picture of the guy in his uniform on the headstone.
hadn't seen light up grave deco before... that's just weird.
its funny, in NE Arkansas, near Corning, there is a headstone with that one it as well, from around 1916??? Young teenage girl died and has that on her's
