The National Gallery

It seems like the south portico of the National Gallery is magic for me. Whenever I shoot there, something cool happens. See this photo from two years ago. I shot about a thousand pictures today. I'll post more in the next few days.

You're the National Gallery,
You're Garbo's salary,
You're Mickey Mouse . . .

I love this picture. When I was a little girl in Catholic school in suburban Maryland, we'd take a field trip every year to the National Gallery -- in our green plaid uniforms. I live far away from D.C. now, but looking at your photo makes me see all over again the sudden dimness inside after the sunshine outside and hear the echoing Rotunda and the hush of the Sculpture Galleries. Thanks!

Mrs Whatsit... that gave me goosebumps. You expressed it well. I love walking in that door... it's so rare to go into a great art museum and not have to get in line to pay. At the National Gallery you just walk right in. It still freaks me out to walk in and see the same sculptures that I photographed way back in college. They seem like old friends now.

OT!!

Rick, have you noticed a change in Blogger behavior with posted photos? Clicking on one used to open the larger version in the same browser window; now it opens the "What do you want to do with this window." Not sure what happened, but I liked the old way better. Is this happening to you too, or is it something odd going on with my PC?

Yeah, I've noticed it too. It's a problem. I've sort of solved it by telling Firefox to "Open with" Firefox, but it's still more awkward.

Lovely shot, Rick. The shadows seem so motionless, but the little girl is full of energy. Thanks for posting it.

Sentimental fellah, aren't ya?

Two similar photos, and yet so different.

There's a subtle difference in how the shadows fall in both photos. In the photo with the school girl, the columns themselves seem to have more energy. In the other photo, they seem more staid.

In the photo with the woman carrying an umbrella, the two columns evoke elephant legs. Best not to walk through an elephant's legs, of course. The woman is walking parallel to the row of columns.

More zoom and a lower shooting angle on the photo with the girl makes the columns appear to be closer together than in the other photo. The girl, like the light, is breaking through columns.

As for the off-topic topic, I'm using Safari on a Mac, and clicking on a Blogger photo used to open the photo in very large format. Now I get a smaller photo in a separate window, and the photo is automatically downloaded to my desktop.

Go figure.

Very nice..., both of them.

Peter... that was a known bug in the Blogger software which has just been fixed for upcoming posts. I could go back and fix the bad posts, but I don't have time now.
