I've been experimenting with time-lapse photography. Here's a fun little example I did on the spur of the moment. This represents about an hour and a half in one minute. Shot on a Nikon D200 camera with a 10mm fisheye.
That "one year in 129 seconds" looks like the technique they used on "Planet Earth". It's a little different from straight time-lapse... some video blending going on. I like that panning device... much cheaper than the professional gear!

You might give this a spin next time. Time lapse + kitchen timer = panoramic time lapse!
