Robert Ding got it first and got it exactly right. It's a slice of whole grain bread. The trick is that it's lit from behind. I showed it to several people this morning (offline) and they all were completely stumped, so good on ya for that guess. BTW Robert, I looked at your blogsite and it's really interesting. I have vacationed in England several times so I'll be studying your walks for future reference. (see my pastel painting from England here.)
Thanks Kim! I was really getting into painting for a few years but I found that it was taking away from my photography... which is my bread and butter... so I backed away from it for a while. I'll do more sometime in the future.
