Blenko, RIP

It looks like Blenko Glass might finally be going out of business. It's sad, but life is constantly teaching us to deal with loss. Here's a piece I saw at the offices of HQ Publishing the other day.

  1. That's gorgeous.

Plus, it's orange and white. Which leads me to: Hook 'em, Horns! :)

  2. That is really sad news to me. I have about 15 Blenko pieces (small ones) that my mom collected since the 50's.

  3. I really hate to hear that! I've got a few pieces that I just love; it's sad to think I won't be able to continue collecting them.

  4. I wonder if the Blenko pieces will go up in value after the plant is closed?

  5. I would certainly think so.

  6. The closing of Blenko is a sad day for West Virginia. Glassmaking is a work of art and a craft that has been around since the middle ages. The Blenko craftsmen were masters at glassmaking.

I guess one of the tenets of capitalism is that businesses are free to fail-- even if they are national treasures. Blenko was the last place in America where you could get mouth blown stained glass.
