That's a very interesting beetle. I don't think I've ever seen one that's quite that color before. Proves that you can find greatness even in the strangest places.
Not only is it dead, it's flattened. I believe it's what's called a "Caterpiller Hunter" or "Fiery Hunter". I've seen these in the woods and they are quite stunningly beautiful... as well as huge.
