That's what my mother and my grandmother always called them as well. It made for nice childhood illusions and fantasies, but was quite a disappointment when I became old enough to realize how much those "coins" are actually worth.
I loved those when I was a kid. Now we can't get rid of them from our yard because they spread like weeds :-)
I'd go with Muenster Cheese plant.
