More Snowshoe Wildlife

I like this one better than the bears. He looks like Jiminy Cricket to me.

Bear Post

Up here at Snowshoe, the staff don't seem to get too excited about bear sitings. They seem to be about as common as squirrels at home. We watched these two from the comfort of a balcony as they puttered around a construction site. Later, while having dinner at "Ember" we watched an employee chasing one out of the parking lot. I for one, was very watchful when returning to the car.

Snowshoe Mountain

I'm up here at Snowshoe shooting a job for two days. It's a ski resort so it's deserted. There are some mountain bikers around, but it's so weird being here outside of ski season. I recommend that you come up for a visit. You can walk right into some great restaurants and get seated immediately. So far, the Ember restaurant is my fave. Perhaps I'll post some food shots tomorrow. Right now it's late and I'm tired.

UPDATE: Luci pointed out in the comments that this is Brandywine, WV, not Riverton. Thanks!

Germany Valley, Part 2

Seneca Grasshopper

I shot this at the Seneca Rocks visitor center. I think that if you had Superman vision, you could have seen the grasshopper in the previous photo of Germany Valley.

Germany Valley

I drove back from Virginia via Route 33 across some of the most scenic areas of West Virginia. I stopped at an overlook and took this panorama of Germany Valley. This is composed from 4 different shots. Click the photo to see a much larger version.

No Produce Thursday

I almost forgot this was Thursday. I'm on location in Virginia... so, no grocery shopping this week. Here's an extra shot from last week that I didn't use.

Oh, Shenandoah...

... blah, blah, etc. I'm working in the Shenandoah Valley the next couple of days. I hope the weather holds up.

Swan Wake

Oh man, I love that title. I'm so pleased with myself. But really... look at that wake. Swans can move. You can't see the feet so it looks really bizarre to see them moving that fast.

Froggies in the palm trees

I'm working in North Carolina today. My wife tends to get upset when she sees a silverfish in the house. If we saw something like this in the houseplants, I guess there would be some serious pandemonium.

New and improved Marshall web site!

I just went to the Marshall University web site to look up a bit of info and was pleasantly surprised to see a completely redesigned site just chock full of Rick Lee photos. I had shot these a few months ago and almost forgot about them. You can click on these photos to see them full size, but if you go to the site you can see the images scrolling across the screen. I think the new site is very nice.

Bigass Beetle

I was out on a shoot today and the art director pointed out this ginormous beetle next to the car. I thought it was a stag beetle, but they have mandibles that are arranged horizontally, rather than vertically like this. I looked around the Internet and I think it's an "Eastern Hercules Beetle". The bumps are just water droplets from the rain.

The Simpson's Couch...

... at the movie theater tonight. That movie has some inspired marketing ideas. I didn't see "The Simpson's" tonight, I saw the "Bourne" movie which might be the greatest action movie I've ever seen.

Charleston Spires, v.2

I was in an office building downtown this morning waiting for my subject to arrive when I noticed this scene out the window. It's a variation on this theme. Photography tip: The air was hazy, grey and dense so I put the camera on tungsten balance to give it the interesting blue tint.
